When I first wrote about my husband's cancer shoulder in November, I
started getting emails from people who couldn't wait to tell me they
knew someone who died an awful death or became horribly disfigured from
melanoma. Oh how comforting! Words to cling to! So when we found out
Karen had a lump, I almost wasn't going to mention it. But, what fun
would that be? Keeping a stupid lump and all the hilarity that would ensue to ourselves would be boring! Of course we'd share that with
everyone! On New Year's Eve morning we found out that Karen's stupid
lump is unfortunately not nothing. Luckily, it is curable
and treatable! She'll have more surgery (hopefully not another flat
tire on the way home or a nurse who feels the need to complain about
her life while Karen lays there naked) and likely radiation . I think
we'll also get some genetic testing which I am super excited about
because we'll finally know if we both have the same dad (and our mom
just fell to the floor).
We aren't the type of sisters who sit around crying about stuff. We are the type of sisters who arm ourselves with information (knowledge is power!), laugh and make jokes about everything, and tease each other every chance we get. We're not about to go changing our ways now. We're also not about to stop living or working or doing what we do.
I think I should for sure get Karen a backwards bathrobe to wear while she recovers from her next surgery!
