My super fancy art studio just has not been working for me lately. And by super fancy art studio I mean a walk-in closet where I have an ironing board set up as a work table. I love the art closet but lately I've had to put a few things in the closet part of it and my workspace has gotten a bit crowded. Ok, by stuff in the closet I mean I made bed for Suki next to me in there. Whatever. I have less room. I saw this great idea in the current issue of Shop Smart magazine where they made this wall organizer out of peg board and cute colorful cups. Basically, hang the pegboard then drill holes in cups and hang them on the peg board. You can put all your stuff in the cups and your work space is free of clutter. A huge piece of pegboard is less than $10 and the entire project should cost less than $15 and take less than an hour. Easy!
It's that time of year when my husband is unemployed and the time of year my honey-do wishlist comes out! It's super stressful to be unemployed but I've found something even more stressful. My husband cut and hung the pegboard above my ironing board desk just as I wanted. Of course because we are us, there were no wall studs in the wall and he had to use anchors which didn't actually work with the screws they came with. It was just like he was still playing Call of Duty but now the wall anchors were the motherfuckers he was trying to kill. Multiple sweating, profanity laden attempts later, the peg board was up. I could not wait to start organizing. I'd been saving miscellaneous cups and containers to practice drilling holes with but did not have any hooks for the peg board yet. I went back to Home Depot were we got the peg board and us being us continued. Home Depot sells peg board but not the pegs. WTF? How lame is that? I spent a day searching for hooks, pegs, whatever would fit in my fantasy peg board. I finally found some at OSH. I found a big selection at OSH, actually, and bought the hooks I thought would work. Just like with hanging the peg board, buying the hooks took multiple attempts. The 1/4 inch were too small. The 1/2 inch were too small. The 5/8 inch were too small. None of the hooks or pegs I got will stay in the peg board. They are all like Mexican Jumping Bean Pegs, no matter what size I get. Even the pegs that fit the best have to be held in place while I take what I want off the peg or place something on it. The 3m sticky hooks I used to have on the wall holding my rulers and scissors worked much better! Maybe I need to stick some gum in the holes before I insert the hooks.
My husband is still unemployed and now I have a peg board without working pegs, my test cups flying off the peg board every time I open or close the door. A peg board without pegs---very stressful.
*In case you are not following me on Twitter or Facebook, I have some 99cent art auctions on ebay this week. Thanks for looking!
[note: An ironing board is a great "standing up" desk. I prefer to stand while working on art or writing. If you are handy or you have a handy friend, you can take the ironing board legs/mechanism off the ironing board and attach to a piece of wood for an adjustable height desk.]

Hi Linda, I had put up a picture of my pegboard closet door on FB. I started to tell you that I had a terrible time finding peghooks..and, that's one reason I used the hanging baskets because they kinda braced against the board and didn't fall out. I spent at least a day lookin for peghooks, also. My DH had to bend some down tighter on the top to make them stay in. Got my baskets really cheap at The Container Store. What is OSH??

In the short run, maybe just cut a little square of mounting foam tape and sandwich it between each jumping hook and the pegboard? It would blend in, but still keep everything secure because it's cushiony but really sticky. Or maybe use some pliers and squeeze the tops of the hooks a little tighter?
If worse comes to worse, the plastic or talon hooks might also work ...

Now I really don't want to use any type of pegboard. I really wanted to try it but this sounds like I'll be playing Call of Duty out loud in Home Depot which wouldn't be a good thing since my husband plays too and he'll probably be with me. I don't want to be banned from Home Depot.
I hope you get it fixed properly or rigged to work. I hope Suki isn't injured in the process. She can run fast I'm sure.
